Updates and Daffodills!

In my previous post, I designated Saturday March 26th, (“Make your own Holiday” day) "Mom is out of ICU and soon to be home again Day".  And it was the perfect designation.  Mom did indeed come home from the hospital last Saturday.

After learning just how critical a low sodium level can be, we are now more aware of watching salt intake – not just too much but also to make sure it is enough.  We learned this  issue a hormonal one and more often affects older women.  Once she received enough sodium - slowly over two days - she returned to her old self and was ready to head home – with a much wiser family in tow!

Halleluiah!!

Additionally, our snow is just about all gone and all the daffodils Jim carefully planted for me last fall are finally breaking through the ground!!  Spring has sprung in Minnesota!!

Halleluiah, again!!

Celebrate Make Your own Holiday Day Today!

March 26th is "Make Your Own Holiday"; a day to celebrate whatever you want.  There are no rules!  Just have fun with it and celebrate whatever makes you happy.

As for me, I'm making today,  "Mom is out of ICU and soon to be home again Day"; a day to celebrate modern medicine and wonderful nurses and hospital staff.  I can't say enough good things about all of the caring people at St. Joseph's Hospital - from Esther, our ER nurse, Joe, Michael and Dave our ICU nurses, to the Doorman with the constant warm smile and to any other staff who recognized a "confused look" out in the Hospital corridors.  We couldn't ask for any better care.

And of course we are thankful for God's unfailing presence during these past few days.   He does indeed, provide just what you need, just when you need it.  It is His promise and He does keep it!!!

Sunday Morning Coffee - According to our Faith

"According to your faith be it unto you" (Matt. 9:29).
"Praying through" might be defined as praying one's way into full faith, emerging while yet praying, into the assurance that one has been accepted and heard, so that one becomes actually aware of receiving, by firmest anticipation and in advance of the event, the thing for which he asks.

Let us remember that no earthly circumstances can hinder the fulfillment of His Word if we look steadfastly at the immutability of that Word and not at the uncertainty of this ever-changing world. God would have us believe His Word without other confirmation, and then He is ready to give us "according to our faith."

Without other confirmation.  That's the big stumbling block of my faith.  I am always on the look-out for other earthly confirmation.   My prayer today, over my cup of coffee, is for a better focus on the immutability of His Word and less on my need for analysis and confirmation.  No small task for this student of math!

Morning Coffee - Rejoice in it!

.
                                                                         @Adam Hodges

"They say that springs of sweet fresh water well up amid the brine of salt seas; that the fairest Alpine flowers bloom in the wildest and most rugged mountain passes; that the noblest psalms were the outcome of the profoundest agony of soul.

"Have [I] learned this lesson yet? Not simply to endure God's will, nor only to choose it; but to rejoice in it with joy unspeakable and full of glory."

I believe I'll pour another cup of coffee and work on my rejoicing!

Morning Coffee - National Curlew Day!

“Birds are a miracle because they prove to us there is a finer, simpler state of being which we may strive to attain.”
Doup Coupland

Today is National Curlew day.  The Curlew is the large shorebird also known as the “sicklebird” or the “candlestick bird”.  March 16 is the traditional day that 500 curlews return from Mexico to the Umatilla National Wild Refuge in Oregon to court,  mate, nest and raise their young.

An interesting fact is that Candlestick Park was named after this odd looking bird as the stadium took its name from Candlestick Point in San Francisco.

Celebrate the birds today!

Morning Coffee - Leave the Choice with Him

God always gives His best to those who leave the choice with Him.      ~ Jim Elliot

One of my favorite old television shows, Father Knows Best, had it exactly right.  Our Father does know best.  Despite all of my attempts to take control of most every situation I face, ultimately I learn that He knows what he is doing – and I don’t!   Not only has His way has always been the best, but most times, it has been so much better than I could have ever imagined!

Time to refill my cup and then hand over today's choices to Him, who knows best.

Morning Coffee - The Routine of Life

"Be thou there till I bring thee word" (Matt. 2:13)
"Oh restless heart, that beat against your prison bars of circumstances, yearning for a wider sphere of usefulness, leave God to order all your days. Patience and trust, in the dullness of the routine of life, will be the best preparation for a courageous bearing of the tug and strain of the larger opportunity which God may some time send you."

It’s good to remember that our routine circumstances have a purpose and that patience and trust are the key to serving that purpose.  Time for a second cup of coffee and a reflection on the routine ahead of me today.

Morning Coffe - The Music of my Day!

“Every day that is born into the world comes like a burst of music and rings the whole day through, and you make of it a dance, a dirge, or a life march, as you will”   ~ Thomas Carlyle

Time to pour a second cup of coffee and decide the music I’ll make today.

Morning Coffee - Meet Him Alone; Meet Him Regularly

Be ready in the morning, and come up…..present thyself there to me in the top of the mount.  And no man shall come up with thee.
Ex 34:2-3

"The morning watch is essential.  You must not face the day until you have faced God, nor look into the face of others until you have looked into His."

"You cannot expect the day to be victorious, if the day begins only in your own strength."

"Meet Him alone. Meet Him regularly.  Meet Him with His open Book of counsel before you; and face the regular and the irregular duties of each day with the influence of His personality definitely controlling your every act."

It's time to refill my cup and strengthen myself for the day ahead.
