This is far from the same slick message touted by so many of our culture’s current Christian self-help books. The purpose of God’s Word is not to make our road smooth and easy but rather to make us stronger and better fit for the journey.
Oh – how often I need to remind myself of that. I believe I’ll pour another cup of coffee and contemplate my spiritual fitness as I begin this day.
I agree Sandy. I wonder how many people get disillusioned with Christianity when they follow such teachings as The Promise and Joel Osteen and they don't get the answers to their prayers that they want? Unfortunately, in these times of instant gratification, it's hard for people to accept. I just reminded someone the other day that for Christians this world is just a journey that leads to the ultimate destination. Think of the Bible as a guide book.

So agree with you. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
ReplyDeleteSelf-help books are only valuable if they point the person needing help to the Source - Jesus Christ.
All very well said...Jesus never promised an EASY life. Following Jesus isn't a smooth, leisurely path. Sometimes it is, and we should be sure to enjoy those moment. Other times, it's a roller coaster of emotions.
