Morning Coffee - Investing or Salvaging

“Life is not salvage to be saved out of the world, but an investment to be used in the world.”

My Mrs. Chas. E. Cowman devotions this morning ended with this sentence.  What an excellent way to describe how our lives should be lived.

Salvage and scrap are very near and dear to both Jim and I.  Jim’s garage is full of salvaged stuff; lengths of wire, pieces of board, nuts, bolts, screws – you name it, he has a storehouse of it.  And I’m no better; my spare room closet is overflowing with pieces of fabric, yarn, buttons and other crafting left-overs.   Salvage – that wonderful stuff that we grab and store because we just might have a need for it someday – yet something that costs us very little and needs little care.

And then we have our investments - which are treated totally different from our scrap.  We monitor them closely.  Jim pours over them often, thinking deeply as to what they will return for us and how they can best be used.   They are kept in a secure place and guarded carefully so as not to be misused.  Our primary goal is to derive maximum benefit from them.  And we care for them with that in mind.  Far differently than our salvage.

“Life is not salvage to be saved out of the world, but an investment to be used in the world.”

Time for a second cup of coffee and a prayer that our day not merely be salvage but a valuable investment.

  1. Sandy, while Mrs. Cowman has wonderful insights, it is your commentaries that make them really understandable. I love them! Hope and pray that Jim is doing better!

  2. Will enjoy a cup of coffee and invest in personal relaxation today - don't have to work anywhere for a whole day, lol! Need to gather strength for two very full weeks ahead!

  3. I keep thinking that one man's treasure is another man's trash... and so it is with life, isn't it? How one man keeps his days might be a waste to another...

Lifting up you and Jim in my prayers!
