The Message - Proverbs 3:5-6

I first posted this two years ago, May 9, 2009.  But since this particular verse presented itself to me twice this morning, I've decided to post it once again.   I need the reminder.

My favorite verse, Proverbs 3:5-6 - from The Message translation:
Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
don't try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
he's the one who will keep you on track.
"Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go." I like how this is phrased; in everything and everywhere. I still exert too much control here. No wonder I keep derailing.

My mind is like a dimmer switch on a light bulb and my hand is on the control. I can go from very intense listening to merely half-hearted listening in just a matter of seconds. I turn that knob way too often; quieting God's voice when it doesn't suit me. What I need to do is set it on high and then remove my hand.

But control is so hard to give up.

  1. So true of all of us Sandy. I'm afraid we all treat God like a fair weather friend. Turning to him for advice when the going gets rough, but ignoring him too often when we are enjoying the good times. I needed this reminder also!

  2. Amen! As I read this I was reminded of a bumper sticker I saw this week:

    God is my Pilot.

    I like that better than:

    God is my Co-Pilot.

    Don't you??

  3. Those two verses have been my mainstay verses all of my life. And they work in any translation, but this one is really neat.

    So glad you shared.

    PS. Maybe you should just take that knob right off... hehe.... !
