Morning Coffee - Especially A chimera in my brain!
A memory of yesterday's pleasures, a fear of tomorrow's dangers, a straw under my knees, a noise in my ear, a light in my eye, an anything, a nothing, a fancy, a chimera in my brain, troubles me in my prayers.
I had to goggle chimera. I knew that John Donne wasn't talking about one of those outdoor fireplaces! But I do understand what he was saying, because I too have that problem. Have to teach my mind to "be still and know that I am God".
I read about the genetics one rather than the mythology one, lol! Imagine, a mouse rummaging in my brain, leaving droppings of doubt, discord, despair, that can go viral and make me terribly sick! Lord, have mercy and focus my thoughts on YOU!
I cannot tell a lie... I don't think I've ever ready anything, except for the odd quote, by John Donne. Now I must go in search of some of his works.....

ReplyDeleteI had to google it too, Jane and when I read "a fire-breathing she-monster" - I knew that was exactly my problem!

ReplyDeleteIt's always those darn "droppings of doubt, discord, despair,"!
ReplyDeleteWhen you quote John Donne, you have touched a cord in my little English heart... :)
ReplyDeleteHe is an interesting fella, isn't he? And seems to know our human nature far too well...
